Acquittal in Immigration Fraud - Sham Marriage Case
The Fraud Solicitors at Stuart Miller Solicitors successfully defended a man from East London, charged with entering into a 'Sham Marriage' for the purposes of obtaining indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
Throughout the case, our client maintained that his marriage to the Portugese woman in question, had been legitimate and genuine. The police searched premises suggested to be the matrimonial home and found no evidence of a genuine marriage. However, the Fraud Solicitors are this firm obtained witness statements from those present at the wedding ceremony, in addition to others known to associated with the couple to prove a genuine relationship did exist.
Faced with the overwhelmingly credible defence evidence produced by this firm, on the first day of the trial, the prosecution reviewed their case and conceded that they had insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and therefore a not guilty verdict was returned.
