Suspended Sentence For Law Student In £50k Benefit Fraud
Stuart Miller Solicitors’ Fraud Solicitors were instructed to represent a Law Student accused of Benefit Fraud spanning 9 years.
The defendant, charged with making False Representations and failing to report changes in her circumstances; was under surveillance by a team of 11 Fraud specialist officers working for the DWP.
The offences arose because the defendant had significant capital savings which were undeclared, lived with a partner who was employed; yet the defendant claimed single parent benefits, was studying full time but claiming disability benefits together with student finance loans and grants.
The value of the Fraud is estimated to be more than £50,000 yet the Fraud Lawyers at this firm managed to present effective mitigation in securing a suspended sentence.
